Creeping Crud Update

Well this bout isn’t nearly as bad as it was the last time I had this.  Possibly because this time I’m not listening to the doctor and AM treating it like poison something.  But it does still itch like a %$**(*^   so, after taking the mega dose antihistamine on Tuesday night and being a zombie most of the day yesterday, I decided to scale back a bit last night.  I have an over the counter antihistamine that I use for my allergies that I tried last night.  That seemed to do the trick just fine.  It does wear off after about 6 hours though and the itching comes back so I’m going to have to live on this stuff for a day or two more till the rash goes away.

Speaking of the rash, I tried a couple of things night before last.  First I put my son’s acne cream on one spot (hey, it’s supposed to dry the acne up so why not) and I used Aveeno anti itch cream with something in it that is supposed to dry up rashes, and I used just strait Ivy Dry on the rest of the spots.  The acne cream seemed to work the best!  The Ivy Dry came in a close second and the Aveeno – waste of time.

So, last night I double dosed with the acne cream on everything and sprayed the Ivy Dry on top.  I’m gonna get rid of this crud one way or another!

Antihistamine induced haze

I’ve gotten into something in the woods again.  Remember a few years ago when I got something that we thought was poison ivy but the doctor said it wasn’t and treated it with cortisteroid cream which made it 100 times worse (I think it was feeding on that stuff) and when I finally went back to the ivy dry it cleared up but not without another trip to the doctor and some nasty antihistamine pills (that would drop an elephant at 100 paces) and a super powerful steroid shot and pill (that make you one angry elephant at 100 paces)?

*breath*

So, I got into that stuff again – I think.  It’s not poison ivy because Erik and Bill did not get it and they both are extremely allergic to it – they just look at it and they start to itch!  But it’s some sort of contact dermatitis and it itches like crazy!  I’ve been slapping it for days (as apposed to scratching since that just opens the blisters and spreads the stuff) and it  was just not cutting it last night…. So I took a pill.

OMG!  This stuff will seriously knock you on your ass asleep.  I slept the sleep of the dead last night and this morning I’m barely conscious.  This is supposed to be a 6 hour pill and I took it at 11 so theoretically it should be out of my system by now – but it lingers - lurking around the corner of my consciousness poking at the backs of my eyeballs causing them to close.  The drive in was interesting!

Yes, I’m at work.  You see I’m doing this instead of actually working because I can’t guarantee the outcome of such an endeavor!  But alas, I’m going to have to take lots of walks today, drink something caffeinated (not coffee – Blaugh!  Cant stand that stuff) and hope for the best.

Weekend Roundup

We had a rocky start to the weekend. It rained on Thursday afternoon and Erik had ridden his motorcycle up to the mall to see Meghan. He got caught in the rain on the way home and as he started to slow down to make the turn into our subdivision – the bike went down. He is ok except for some scrapes and the bike is rideable but doesn’t look nearly as pretty as it once did:

After he pushed it home (thankfully we only live a few feet from the entrance) and dried it all off he was able to start it again and he thinks its ok. He had just replaced a mirror that he lost when it fell while parked on the left side and now the mirror on the right side is gone! (This after he replaced the mirror on the left side of his truck and the rear view mirror on the inside fell down last week! I told him it was the universe telling him to stop worrying about the past and look to the future – I don’t know, sounded like sage advice! LOL )

So we got him patched up and then we headed down to the property for the weekend. We got a lot of rain down there too so the wet weather creeks were all running on the land. We spent at least an hour at one creek trying to figure out how to get the mule across without flooding the engine. First we tried building a rock bridge but that wasn’t going to work so we damed up one side and cleared debris out of the other so that the water would flow out of the spot where we needed to cross.

Later when we took Bill back to show him our feat of civil engineering, we discovered this clearing that I had seen on the Google Map but had never found on our land:

And just a few feet away:

And this huge boulder – it was at least 4 feet high!

We did quite a bit of work this weekend. We had planned to take some cedar trees down up by the house but with the rain the ground was too soft in the area that they were in so we decided to clear out the brush and trees around the house instead. It looks so much better now.

This week Bill is going to try to get our seed planted so that they can be ready for transplant outside in about a month. Even though the temperatures have been in the 70’s all week and we have had a very warm winter I don’t trust that it won’t frost once more before April 15 (our usual last frost date.) He also needs to get the cold frame built outside for the raised bed. We have some cement blocks that my sister gave us that we are going to use for the base and an old storm door for the top – the door is 8 feet tall! So we should have a nice raised bed and cold frame. I’m not sure if it is cool enough for lettuce which is what we were planning for the cold frame but I may start some in my house (if I can find a window with sun and that I can keep the cats out of!)

Weekend Roundup

This weekend we cleaned up more of the yard.

Clearing the apple tree

This weekend we cleaned up more of the yard.

Bill's stump removal service

Burning the brush

Stumps in the Hawthorns

This weekend Erik will be coming down with me to help with taking down the rest of the cedar trees and mulching them.

We also went to the burning goat day at our friend Cheri’s house.

A good time was had by all. We followed some other friend home to take a look at some glass that she wants Bill to take to PSG this year. Her father was a glass blower and has made some beautiful things. Unfortunately, he has had an accident and can no longer blow glass. She has boxes and boxes of this stuff – I didn’t take pictures yet since they are not mine to sell. But perhaps we will get some pictures of the booth set up this year at PSG to share and you can see some of this amazing work.
