Sorry, running a little late this week with the posting of the menu. We went out for dinner last night. A friend of my son's and an aquaintence from WW were having a fund raiser last night at Texas Roadhouse for their brother/son that was hit by a car in January and is in a coma. Austen used to work with his twin sister who goes to my WW meeting. Erik and I went - the food was very good and the company as well! :)
Monday: Fund Raiser at Texas Roadhouse
Tuesday: leftover skillet lasagna
Wednesday: Sharon’s Company chicken (Dierbergs Everybody Cooks, March 2010),
Knorr Parmesan pasta sides, Roasted root Vegetables (Dierbergs March 2010)
Thursday: Spicy Crab, Shrimp and Cherry Tomato Gumbo (WW Best Food Ever cookbook)
Friday: eating out/or leftover gumbo at Bill’s
Saturday: Stuffed Green Pepper Soup (doubled and taking to Goat night)
Sunday: Lemon and Herb stuffed pork chops (WW Best), Collard Greens
As usual if you want a recipe just ask.
Aside from some of the mouth-watering titles, I find myself intrigued by the mention of Goat Night. Do I want to know what it is or will it scar my tender psyche?
ReplyDeleteLOL Well, you may think it very pagan of us but we really just wanted an excuse to get together in the cold of the winter and have a party. You see it all started a few years ago when someone was cruising the internet (not me) and found this:

They had read several articles about the folks that were caught (a US citizen was caught in 2001: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/4497408.stm) and thought it looked like something fun to do. Well, we don’t have too many goats made out of straw or wood in town squares around here (although I know for a fact that they DO build a tumbleweed Christmas tree in Chandler Arizona every year – I’m surprised that hasn’t been torched yet. http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/local/chandler/article_e233bb04-f8cd-11df-a0cc-001cc4c002e0.html) and we aren’t really into Arson on a public scale.
So, several of my friends decided to build a goat out of wood and straw and burn it on a Saturday night in February. They invited all their friends and it has become an annual event. My friend Cheri http://thechickensareloose.blogspot.com/2012/02/whats-in-biodome.html hosts it at her ‘Country Estate’ every year. This weekend is the goat burning party. So, I’m taking some Stuffed Green Pepper soup in the crock pot – I figure that folks may be cold outside standing around the fire so something warm in their tummies would be welcome. :)
So, there you have the goat day celebration. It’s just something well all made up (stole from the Swedes) and we have fun doing it.
Well, it does sound pagan, but then that would make sense since you're a pagan, right? lol! I looked up your references, which were interesting. Funny how old traditions/rituals can be changed over time. Enjoy your Green Peppers and stay warm!
